Judy Ann, Claudine rivalry in the offing?

Source: Fionna Acaba, abs-cbnnews.com

Judy Ann “Judai” Santos was surprised to hear about Claudine Barretto’s transfer to another network.

As to whether or not the network transfer will stir up their rivalry issues again, Judai replied: “Kahit saan naman may competition. And it’s okay as long as it is a healthy competition. Ang mahalaga at the end of the day hindi nawawala yung pagiging magkaibigan namin.”

Judai said that she still hopes she can work with Claudine again.

“Hanggang ngayon nagdadasal pa din ako na sana dumating ang panahon na magkasama kami sa isang project. Maraming pwedeng mangyari, marami pang pwede magbago uli. Maraming posibilidad kaya hindi malayong mangyari ‘yung mga ganung bagay,” she said.

Meanwhile, Santos also defended her husband Ryan Agoncillo over the latter’s appearances in other networks.

She said: “Wala naman exclusive contract si Ryan with ABS-CBN, so okay lang naman ‘yun. Tsaka ‘yun talaga yung gusto niyang gawin, hosting. Dun talaga siya magaling.”

She said that as husband and wife, they support each other in every decision they make.

She also clarified the issue that just because Agoncillo has a lot of projects lined-up than her, there is a competition between the two of them.

“Bago pa man kami ikasal, talagang nakilala na kami sa kanya-kanya naming pangalan, siya bilang Ryan Agoncillo, magaling na host at ako isang simpleng artista. Tsaka dun naman talaga magaling si Ryan, sa pagho-host. Pero napatunayan rin naman niya na kaya niya umarte like sa Pieta ‘di ba?” she said.

Santos also disagreed with the idea that once an actress is already married, she loses her “market value.”

“I don’t think so. Bakit naman si Ate Shawie (Sharon Cuneta)? Bakit naman si Ate Vi (Vilma Santos)? Hanggang ngayon nandiyan pa rin sila,” she said.

No Intl Emmy plum for RP

Source: Reyma Buan-Deveza, abs-cbnnews.com

The country's 3 nominees at the 37th International Emmy Awards were unsuccessful in their bid to bring home the prizes during the gala event at Hilton New York Hotel Monday night (US time).

Actress Angel Locsin, who was nominated for her performance as a she-wolf in ABS-CBN teleserye "Lobo," failed to grab the best actress award.

In a phone interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, Locsin’s talent manager Becky Aguila, who was with the actress during the awards night in New York, said the Filipino actress lost to Julie Walters (A Short Stay in Switzerland, BBC, United Kingdom).

Two other nominees from the Philippines - ABS-CBN's "Kahit Isang Saglit" (A Time For Us) and GMA Network’s “Magdusa Ka” – were also unsuccessful. The two television series have been nominated under the telenovela category. The prize was given to Brazil’s “India-A Love Story.”

Even though Locsin did not win the prize, Aguila said “it was a very nice, wonderful and memorable experience for her.”

Aguila added that her ward was very proud to represent the Philippines in the prestigious competition.

Crowd favorite

Locsin is the second Filipina to be nominated under the best actress category in the competition. In 1989, Tessie Tomas was nominated for her role as former first lady Imelda Marcos in “A Dangerous Life.”

Aguila shared that Locsin was one of the crowd favorites in the red carpet. She was also the youngest nominee, according to the talent manager.

“She really stands out dahil ang ganda ng long gown niya. Everyone is staring at her. Everybody is staring at her gown,” Aguila added.

The actress’ gown was designed by Michael Cinco and is said to be worth P1 million, Aguila said. The gown weighs almost 6 kilos, with a lot of beads and Swarovski crystals.

Prior to the awards night, Locsin told ABS-CBN North America News Bureau that she was not expecting anything. She said she was happy just to be recognized by an international award giving body.

“Para sa akin hindi nagtatapos yan dito. Bilang artista, isang chapter pa lang ito. After nito move on ka, mag-research ka ulit sa bago mong character. Pero siyempre nakatulong ito para ma-inspire ka pa,” she added.

Gala event

According to the Web site of International Emmy Awards, the winners came from 6 countries across Europe, Asia and South America.

Nominees from the United Kingdom won in 5 out of 10 categories. This year, Brazil made history by taking home their first ever International Emmy Award for telenovela “India-A Love Story.”

A thousand international entertainment professionals and media executives attended the gala event, which was hosted by UK television star Graham Norton.

Presenters included Ed Westwick, Edie Falco, Alexa Chung, Moby, Katharine McPhee, Rachel Roy, Stephanie March, Keke Palmer, Matt Bomer, Matthew Rhys, Paul Schulze, Paula Zahn, Barbara Walters and Henry Kissinger.

“We congratulate tonight’s winners for their outstanding achievements. All the nominated programs and performances are a true inspiration for all of us in the industry and for audiences worldwide,” said academy president and chief executive officer Bruce Paisner.

Sir David Frost was also presented with the 2009 International Emmy Founders Award by legendary journalist Barbara Walters. Frost is one of the preeminent television figures of the 20th century, producing and hosting shows for more than 40 years.

The ABS-CBN Side In The Alledge Disputes In SM Theaters

SOURCE: ABS-CBNNEWS.COM

Star Cinema aims to reach ‘win-win’ solution with SM

MANILA – The managing director of Star Cinema is hoping that the “collection and computation issues” of the ABS-CBN’s movie outfit with SM theaters will be resolved soon.

According to Malou Santos, the Star Cinema management wants to reach a win-win situation with SM malls.

“Ang nais lang naman ng Star Cinema ay maayos na komputasyon, pantay na hatian, at maayos na partnership. Sa madaling sabi---hating kapatid,” Santos said in a statement.

The dispute between Star Cinema and SM managements reportedly led to the non-screening of “And I Love You So” in all SM theaters.

Reports said the row stemmed from Star Cinema’s decision to hold the premiere of the movie at Trinoma. Both parties, however, denied the reports.

Directed by Laurenti Dyogi, Bea Alonzo, Sam Milby and Derek Ramsay are the lead stars of "And I Love You So."

Ces, Jimmy, and Angelo are finally all free. We cannot wait to bring them home to our families and to ABS-CBN. We are thankful that our prayers have been answered and our efforts rewarded.

We thank everyone who helped secure the release of Ces, Jimmy, and Angelo. We received a great outpouring of support from people all over the world who care for freedom. Their words of comfort and prayers guided and strengthened us throughout this ordeal.

There are people who gave us timely and valuable advice as we grappled with ways to secure the release of Ces, Jimmy, and Angelo. They wish to remain anonymous, but they know how eternally grateful we are to all of them.

Above all, the release of Ces, Jimmy, and Angelo could not have been possible without the help of Senator Loren Legarda and the cooperation of the people of Sulu and their local government namely Indanan Mayor Alvarez Isnaji and Vice Governor Lady Ann Sahidullah. We thank them and share their hope for enduring peace in Mindanao.

For their invaluable assistance, we thank Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno; National Police chief Avelino Razon Jr.; officials of the Police Anti-Crime and Emergency Response (PACER) led by Senior Supt. As the negotiation continues for the release of Ces Drilon and her cameraman Jimmy Encarnacion, the family of Ces Drilon have a new appeal.

In a statement issued last Saturday (June 14), Drilon's family said they hoped that the kidnappers would "have a change of mind and heart and see the good that will come out of releasing Ces and Jimmy."

"We are not giving up even on the people who continue to hold Ces and Jimmy captive. We have already tried our very best to have them released," the family said.

Drilon, 46, a television journalist who has covered unrest in the southern Philippines for several years, was seized with her colleagues shortly after arriving in Jolo on Sunday.

The Drilon family said "Ces has always taken a special interest in the welfare of Mindanao."

"In spite of the risk of her profession and the additional dangers of going to Jolo, Ces and her cameraman Jimmy Encarnacion braved the trip for a story about the struggles of Mindanao," the family said.

"We are proud that she is a passionate and dedicated journalist, committed to reporting the news for the benefit of the nation," the family said.

The Drilon family thanked the people helping them try to get "Ces and Jimmy back."

"We would like to thank the government, the authorities, and the local government of Sulu for their persistent efforts to secure their release. Please don't give up. We are counting on you and are praying for your efforts," the family said.
