PBB Double Up in hot water again?

Source: abs-cbnnews.com

Is ABS-CBN’s “Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Double Up” in hot water again?

This after Beverly Longid, president of the Katribu party-list, an indigenous peoples sectoral party, protested the “improper and inappropriate use of the bahag (g-string)” in PBB’s Monday episode.

Longid said one of the housemates “wrongly” wrapped around his waist an Igorot g-string in his task.

Longid was referring to Steve “Tibo” Jumalon who was made to wear a bahag in an effort to teach him the value of simplicity.

But there is a proper and appropriate way of wearing the garment, maintained Longid.

“While we understand that the intent of its use is to promote certain moral values, we believe it diminished the cultural symbolism and importance of the indigenous garb,” she said.

Bahag is traditionally worn by Igorot men of Cordillera and other indigenous peoples such as the Aetas, Dumagats and Mangyans.

“Any inappropriate use of our culture not only offends our sensitivities but also demeans the integrity of our customs and traditions, which we passionately defend together with our rights to ancestral land and self-determination,” she added.

She called on the PBB producers to “correct the improper use of the bahag.”

“We can extend assistance in demonstrating the proper way of wearing it and in educating the public regarding its appropriate use, not to mention the importance of upholding the integrity of indigenous culture,” she said.

Months ago, the Philippine Nurses Association Inc. (PNA) cried foul after housemate Catherine “Cathy” Remperas wore a nurse uniform as her costume. The group reportedly said that it allegedly tarnished the good image of a professional nurse. Cathy is a nursing graduate.

The producers of the show later apologized to the PNA.

iGMA: Raymond Gutierrez talks about StarStruck V

Source: Jason John S. Lim, gmanews.tv

After three seasons as a host of 'StarStruck,' it can be argued that Raymond Gutierrez has learned a lot sa competition na ito. And that's why we ask him what this season's contenders should do to make it big sa larangan ng showbiz.

Start pa lang ng season na ito, Raymond already promised that StarStruck V will be bigger than its predecessors.

"I'm very, very excited," pahayag ni Raymond nang interview noon. Dahil bukod sa mga bagong twists na darating from the show, Raymond is also reuniting with his StarStruck family. "I've been with them for how many seasons already, they're like a family to me." And, he tells us, it's also his first time na makatrabaho si Carla Abellana.

What else is Raymond excited about? Seeing how this season's contestants handle the pressures of being a star, being a celebrity, "and of course, the challenges that go along with it."

Sabi nga nila, every season of StarStruck is different. Hindi lang dahil may mga bagong twists na aabangan lagi, but also because ibang-iba lagi ang personalities ng mga nakakasama sa competition. "So exciting [din] how it's gonna be different creatively."

Isa sa mga bagong addition sa season na ito, compared to the seasons Raymond has been part of, is the mentorship program. Five experts with their own fields of expertise are coming together to give the finalists a top-notch education in singing, dancing, acting, grooming and image development.

Kaya naman nasabi ni Raymond na, "if I was a contestant, I would maximize the fact that I have these mentors around me. I'll ask as many questions as I can, and really try to absorb their advice, really try to listen. Kasi sila talaga 'yung nakaaalam sa bawat aspeto ng industriyang ito."

At dahil nga ito ang gagawin niya if he were in the contestants' place, ito rin ang advice niya sa mga remaining survivors ng StarStruck V—to ask. "Whether it's with acting, or with style, or with singing—anything that would hone their skills, to make sure they stand out."

"Kasi, at the end of the day, I'm sure they want to stand out." Raymond says that if these contestants really want to impress the judges, they should maximize the fact na mayroong silang mentors.

We asked him, kung siya ba ang papipiliin, ano ang gusto niyang makita sa future star na mahuhulma ng StarStruck V? Raymond said that the overall package is important sa competition, that the winner should not just have talent, but also wit. "Someone that can carry themselves in any situation, someone na kayang i-express 'yung sarili nila—‘yun 'yung hinahanap ko."

"And also dedication, determination, 'yung pagiging strong-willed. Importante ‘yun in becoming a star," he added.

Do our survivors have what it take to make it big, sa batayan ni Raymond? We'll find out as the competition continues on StarStruck V.

Catch Raymond hosting StarStruck V every Saturday, pagkatapos ng Pinoy Records, where he breaks down everything that has happened for the week.

You can also catch shorter updates from Mondays to Fridays sa StarStruck ShoutOut bago mag-Family Feud. And, of course, ang elimination nights ay live na live every Sunday night sa Studio V, pagkatapos ng Kap's Amazing Stories, with Dennis Trillo and Carla Abellana.

Coco Martin not a sell-out, says Brillante Mendoza

Source: abs-cbnnews.com
Award-winning director Brillante Mendoza belied reports that he has ill-feelings against actor Coco Martin for allegedly turning his back on doing independent films.

In an interview, Mendoza said he is happy for Martin's success as a bankable mainstream actor.

"Masaya ako kasi kahit noong wala pa siya sa mainstream eh ang feeling ko mayroon na siyang na-achieve. (I'm happy because even when he wasn't mainstream, I felt he had already achieved something)," Mendoza told "SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon."

The director's statement also rooted from reports that Martin had "forgotten" the indie industry because his hectic schedule as an in-demand actor for ABS-CBN inhibits him from making non-mainstream films.

The Cannes award-winning director had worked with Martin on various indie films. But it was the film "Masahista", directed by Mendoza, that gave Martin a big break.

'Never forget indie'

Proving that there were no ill feelings between him and his mentor, Coco Martin received his Anak TV Male Makabata Star award on Tuesday (December 8) and thanked Brillante Mendoza for helping him.

"Nagpapasalamat po ako ng marami sa ABS-CBN at gusto kong magpasalamat sa mentor ko at idol ko na si Mr. Brillante Mendoza. (I thank ABS-CBN and I also thank my idol and mento, Mr. Brillante Mendoza)," Martin said during his acceptance speech.

In a separate interview, Martin also shot down speculations that he was leaving the indie film community for good.

"Ang indie ay hinding hindi ko makakalimutan 'yan at saka kay Direk Dante kasi siya ang naghubog sa akin at isa siya sa dahilan kung bakit ako nandito ngayon," Martin said.

(I will never forget indie films. And Director Dante--short for Brillante--he was the one who shaped me as an actor and he is one of the reasons why I am where I am today.)

Currently, Martin is part of ABS-CBN's "Nagsimula sa Puso" with lead star Maja Salvador.

Martin rose to mainstream fame when he played the character of Ramon in the defunct hit television series "Tayong Dalawa."

After the Rain: GMA's tribute to the victims of typhoons

Source: Loretta G. Ramirez, gmanews.tv

Ipapalabas sa December 13 sa Sunday Night Box-Office (SNBO) ang GMA Christmas special entitled, “After the Rain: A Hopeful Christmas with Regine." The musical-documentary concert gives tribute to the Filipino spirit that has remained resilient despite the onslaught of typhoons which tremendously affected the lives of many of our kababayans.

"Maganda 'yung concept ng show kasi 'yung audience noong concert, 'yung mga victims ng typhoon," Asia's Songbird, said Ms. Regine Velasquez to iGMA.

After the Rain, is a two-hour musical-documentary featuring three heartwarming and inspiring ‘Ondoy’ stories. The concert was attended by 800 victims from the typhoon-devastated cities and provinces such as Rizal, Laguna, Pasig, Marikina and Pangasinan. Sinundo sila from evacuation centers and transported to GMA Network's Studio 7 for a special dinner party before the show.

"They picked three stories, and then each story iso-showcase nila 'yun [through a video presentation] and then there is a song pertaining to that story. Ganun siya all throughout," kuwento ni Regine about the concept of the event.

GMA Network's award-winning primetime news anchors Mel Tianco and Mike Enriquez, together with Kapuso prime time royalties Richard Gutierrez, Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera, will share inspiring words and feelings of admiration for the typhoon victims’ courage and resilience amidst the disasters.

The country's top singers, led by Regine, performed on stage while stories about losing loved ones, of unsung heroes, and tales of survival, hope, happy endings, and gratitude unfold. Others who gave heartwarming performances were Jaya, Kuh Ledesma, Pops Fernandez, JayR, Kyla and La Diva plus the UP Concert Chorus.

"They appreciated naman the show and 'yung gesture din ng GMA to make them think na ‘Okay lang 'yan, kaya ninyo 'yan.’ Gusto natin pataasin kahit papaano ang morale nila kasi obviously hindi naman natin sila matutulungan forever and eventually they need to move forward. Siyempre they need to pick up the pieces. In the meantime eto tayo, try nating magpasaya," said Regine.

At the end of the show, the audience received their special Christmas presents with the help of some sponsors and the GMA Kapuso Foundation.

Sa pagtatapos ng exclusive interview ng iGMA kay Ms. Regine, she left a special message to the victims of “Ondoy" and “Pepeng."

"I hope that the show will be able to help you move on. To pick up the pieces kasi wala naman na tayong choice eh. Eto na 'yun, so isipin na lang natin na merong reason kung bakit nandidito pa rin tayo. Kasi siyempre maraming nawalan--hindi lang ng mga bagay, pati ng mahal sa buhay. Isipin na lang natin na God always has a reason. Sana makaahon tayo sa matinding tragedy na ito," pag-asam niya.

Don’t miss the telecast of this special musical-documentary concert filled with hope and love. After The Rain: A Hopeful Christmas with Regine will air this Sunday, December 13 on GMA-7's SNBO.

Piolo Pascual to play Ninoy Aquino in 'MMK'

Source: Reyma Buan-Deveza, abs-cbnnews.com
It’s confirmed. Piolo Pascual is portraying slain former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., but not in a film.

ABS-CBN’s “Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK)” is set to feature Ninoy’s life story and it tapped Pascual to play the coveted role. Pascual made this confirmation during the launching of his 6th album called "Decades."

The actor disclosed that the taping will start next week. And as part of his preparation, the "Lovers in Paris" star shared that he is now doing his own research about the man whose death triggered the 1986 bloodless revolution in EDSA.

He also disclosed that he will sit down with television host-actress Kris Aquino, Ninoy’s youngest daughter, for some advice.

"Nakaka-pressure din. Ang laki ng expectations. 'Yong mga tao, hindi pa lumalabas, may judgment na hindi mo kamukha [or] you are not eloquent as he was. And then sasabihin sa’yo na wala kang karapatan. Ako, I'll just come up with something na version ko," he said.

Aside from accepting the MMK episode, Pascual is also willing to portray Ninoy in the big screen. The actor was quick to clarify, however, that no offers have been made so far.

Pascual is the personal choice of Aquino’s daughters - Ballsy, Pinky, Viel and Kris - to play the role of their dad in the upcoming film about the life of the late senator’s wife, former president Corazon Aquino.

When asked about his other co-stars, meanwhile, Pascual declined to divulge any detail. "Hindi ko pa pwedeng sabihin. Ako pa lang ang confirmed."

iGMA: Dennis Trillo becomes a reluctant dad this Christmas

Source: gmanews.tv

Masasaksihan ngayong December 10 ang isang nakatutuwa at inspiring story ng two different characters, which will be made interesting when fate plays a trick on them.

Ang Exchange Gift ay istorya tungkol sa karakter nila Francis na si EJ at ang kanyang ninong Miguel, played by Dennis, who find themselves forced to keep up with their opposite personalities as EJ's father dies unexpectedly.

Dahil dito, fate intervenes and they both find themselves sa isang sitwasyon where their bodies were switched upang bigyan sila ng leksiyon.

And for Dennis, he finds this role quite refreshing dahil being a child once more would take him back to his 'kulitan' days.

"Medyo may pagka-naughty at makulit talaga [ako] nun.

Para naman sa comic aspect ng role niya, Dennis told us that his present and previous projects have sufficiently prepared him to do this role.

iGMA: LJ Reyes says she’s ready to go sexy

Source: Jason John S. Lim, gmanews.tv

LJ Reyes is FHM's December cover girl, as you might have already noticed sa mga FHM Magazines na makikita in bookstands nationwide. Pero what does this mean para sa career ni LJ?

"I was ready to do it." Ito ang matapang na mga tugon ni LJ when we talked to her after the launching ng kanyang magazine cover sa SOP Fully Charged last Sunday (December 6).

What made LJ decide to finally do pose for the magazine is the simple fact na nagustuhan niya ang peg na pinakita sa kaniya. "'Yung isang condition ko kasi sa kanila is for it to look classy, ‘wag 'yung medyo bastusin. So, sabi ko, as long as ma-satisfy 'yung lahat ng conditions, go!"

And, as they say, the rest is history.

"The first time na sinabi ko sa kanila, siyempre medyo nagulat," LJ admitted. She said at first her mom didn't approve of the idea. But LJ presented the peg to her family, and nagkausap naman sila ng mabuti about it. "And the peg is not bastos naman, so umokay na rin [sila]."

Now that LJ is an FHM cover girl, hindi naman daw ibig sabihin that she'll completely go the sexy star route.

"Depende pa rin." LJ said her FHM shoot had limitations pa rin naman. "Yes, I did show some more skin, pero it doesn't mean naman na papayag na ako na 'yung roles ko or 'yung costume or whatever ay maging bastusin 'yung dating ko."

But there is one thing that LJ wants to try to do, something she's suggesting sa staff ng SOP Fully Charged para sa One Time Only segment. Biro namin, kaya ba niya talagang gawin 'yung isina-suggest niya. Her reply? "Art yun! [And] basta kasama si Ryza [Cenon], si Chynna [Ortaleza] sure akong sasama ‘yan e."

FHM's December issue is already available where magazines are sold. LJ will also have a radio tour on December 9, mula hapon hanggang Boys Night Out. And on December 11, she will be at Robinsons Galleria at around 4 in the afternoon para sa autograph signing.

"Mga Kapuso, please buy FHM December issue; ako po 'yung cover. Matutuwa naman po kayo sa pictures, promise. And 'yung article po, maaaliw lang kayo sa akin. Promise, matatawa talaga kayo sa akin. Parang ako lang talaga ‘pag nagsasalita," LJ asked her followers.

Catch LJ every Sundays on SOP Fully Charged and weekdays sa StarStruck ShoutOut bago mag-Family Feud.

End Krista Ranillo rumors, appeals Pacquiao

Source: abs-cbnnews.com

Sixteen days before Christmas, pound-for-pound king Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao has made this wish - for the public to end all rumors about his alleged illicit affair with young sexy star Krista Ranillo.

Manny reiterated that it is about time to stop all the intrigues, which he said were the result of “crab mentality.”

"Magpa-pasko na. Kung gusto niyong umunlad ang buhay n'yo, umayos ang buhay n'yo, iwasan niyo ang crab mentality,” he said in an interview during his star-studded victory party in Quezon City Tuesday night.

He added: "Kung gusto nila akong i-tsismis, i-tsismis niyo ako. Basta ako deadma lang. Sabi ko kayo din ang magsasawang mag-tsismis. Kung gusto niyo, pag-usapan niyo pa ako araw-araw. Sa akin lang, sana ay iwasan natin na makasira tayo ng buhay ng ibang buhay kasi kasalanan sa Diyos 'yon.”

The rumors broke out while Manny, his family and entourage were in Las Vegas, Nevada for his “Fire Power” showdown with Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto.

Despite the denials from both camps, the rumors had apparently affected his wife, Jinkee, who burst into tears and was inconsolable while attending a thanksgiving Mass in Las Vegas following Manny’s historic win.

“Dapat maisip ng ibang tao kung nakakasira tayo ng pamilya. Malaking kasalanan 'yan na makasira ka ng isang pamilya," Manny said.

The couple had eventually ironed things out when they arrived in the country.

During his victory party in QC, the Filipino boxing icon assured that everything is fine between him and his wife. He also thanked Jinkee for loving and trusting him.

He said he and his wife were able to hurdle the controversy through the “help of prayers.” He said they will surpass future intrigues also through prayers.

"Alam namin namin na ang kasamaan ay hindi nagtatagumpay sa kabutihan," he said.

Like Jinkee, Pacman also vowed to fight for his family.

Meanwhile, Manny and Ranillo, stars of upcoming movie “Wapakman,” have resumed shooting their film. Tight security was imposed in the set of the film in order to keep the media and crowd at bay.

Manny plays the lead star while Ranillo is the villainess in the film.

Ranillo has slipped quietly back into the country, but she continues to elude the entertainment press.

Victory party

On Tuesday night, Manny threw a victory party that was attended by big names in the entertainment industry.

Among those spotted in the event were Ruffa Gutierrez, Rufa Mae Quinto, Miriam Quiambao, Pops Fernandez, Daisy Romualdez, Pilita Corales, Gloria Romero, Celia Rodriguez and showbiz couples Robert Arevalo and Barbara Perez and Eddie Gutierrez and Annabelle Rama.

Bubbles Paraiso, Carla Humphries, Michelle Madrigal, Christian Bautista, and Nonoy Zuniga also showed up in the party.

Quinto, Manny’s leading lady in “Wapakman," and the famous boxer performed "Sometimes When We Touch." Fernandez, on the other hand, sang "Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang?" with Manny.

Presidential candidate Sen. Manuel Villar and Environment Secretary Lito Atienza also graced the event.

Manny’s next big fight will be with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on March 13, 2010.
